The Magic Hat!: Despite having a pretty poor site design (what is with those animated gifs?) this site actually contains some good content, particularly the articles and bits on the conferences. He also wants to take on any content from magical sites that might be closing down, or messages from magic boards that may be lost in cyberspace.
Future Of Magic: Andi’s site has just got an update, with the start of a very promising column from Ryan Pilling, and the start of some streaming video as well. Give him your support by joining in the forums, next update promised on Nov 15th. Also if you haven’t done so already sign up for Andi’s Monthly Newsletter Trick and Treat Issue 4 has just come out and it contains a really good plot line for Twisting the Aces.
Quarks and Quirks by Ben Harris: Ben has released some pre-publication information about the book. Looks very intriguing, I am going to get my pre-publication order in. I was discussing effects like this last night with someone at our club, the difference between Card Tricks (ie. counting, spelling) and Tricks with Cards, ie. Card Warp, Card Linking etc. The stuff in Q&Q is the very essence of Tricks with Cards, and the kind of thing that 21st Century Magic should be about, I’m looking forward to this!

In this weeks edition of the Radio Times there is an article on Magical websites, probably following the fact that David Blaine is over here in the UK to promote the release of his specials on video. Basically they gave out a load of magical sites, where you could go and get tricks etc. The problem is some of these sites are actually GOOD! Like the Coin Purse for example, gives out really good coin tricks, the problem then? These sites are not password protected! If you are going to give out magical secrets on the web, at least protect them with some sort of magicians-only quiz, or even better make it closed access where you have to contact the website owner for access. Anyway enough of my moaning, I will blog the links that appeared in the RT here for you to look at:

Sonata E-Book: Joe Pecore has written a Magic E-Book full of great ideas, including a brilliant assembly with a good storyline to match, a version of twisting the aces combined with Paul Harris’ Bizzare Twist, Cups and Balls with Playdoh, and a good Coins Across routine, and those are only the ones I have played with! How much is this going to cost? Well thats the magical thing all Joe asks is for a donation to the Leukemia society, you can use PayPal, or for us UKers you can print a form from Joe’s website and mail it to the USA. I can see this is going to be the way forward for Magical publishing, letting people get their ideas and creations to the masses with little or no cost, and Joe has done a generous thing of making his book Donation-Ware and for such a good cause… go and buy it!
