Creativity and Invention is something I struggle with, I have ‘invented’ or come up with (notice the use of quotes!) a couple of things, but I have no illusions that they are original. If you are like me, or just want to read something about the subject check out: Chuck Leach’s Guide to Inventing, Jorg Willich’s Being Creative with Magic and finally Tom Stone’s Five part Creativity Essay all these links are courtesy of the ultimate brain-storm/creativity publication Half-Baked.
Postit Plane: Not quite Origami, but I like it Make your own Post-It Note Plane and send it in to be featured on the site. Also check out Cal’s weblog.
Tarot Card Reading: Have your Tarot Cards read online with this ASP script, I’m just in the process of learning to read Tarot Cards, or at least understand a bit about them.
The Great Goosini: Online Palm-Reading and Graphology… get your palm read and your handwriting analyzed online!
Phone-Card-Phone: Can I just say WOW! this is cool, a mobile phone made out of Recycled Paper… it is set to cost only $10, expected release is 3qtr of 2001 in the USA then 6 months after that it will go global. It will have 60mins of time on it, and then you just throw it away or top it up with a credit card! Also plans are underway for a Card-Laptop this will cost only $20 and be used as a web-access point. Personally I love stuff like this, it just shows you how advanced micro-technology is. Where and what will we be doing and making 10 years from now? (link courtesy of The Register).
MagicSports: A good game to play at your magic club, or during a late-night session. Can stem creativity.
The Magical Connection: This is an online magic club which started early 1999, they meet every week in a chat room, you can sign up to the members area, read magic reviews and interviews and participate in the magic message board.
Tom Hull’s Homepage: Tom is a professor of Maths and is interested in the Mathematics behind Origami. On his page you will find information regarding Mathematics and Origami, also photos of his models, and instructions on how to make things such as a flapping bat, and an Origami CD Case. Just-Coins: A new UK dealer specialising in Coin Magic, and other bits and pieces, seems fairly resonably priced for coins.
Magus Magic: Original Mental and Occult magic, based in a town not too far from where I live… very clever and unique effects.
Started my City & Guilds 740 Adult Teachers Certificate today. Scary stuff, you have to do 4 hours of teaching on the course, and also some Micro Teaching in-front of the group. Not sure how much of my time this will take up, but I will keep the blog posted on my progress and thoughts. I still don’t know if I want to eventually teach, I really do enjoy it, but I think I’d much rather get some experience on the job, e.g. working for a WebDesign company, rather than teaching web-design… ah well we will see how it goes!
SiteUpdate: You may have notices some additions down the left hand side, namely ‘Amazon Wish List’, ‘Current Status’ and ‘Current Poll’s’. The first two are fairly easy to understand, the Current Status just tells you the reader a bit more about what I am currently reading, listening too, and practicing in regards to Magic. The newest feature to the site is the Current Poll’s where I will be running Poll’s or Voting Booth’s for you to vote on various questions, if anyone has any good quesitons please let me know. Also I will start adding articles to the Article Manager and Links to the Link manager asap. Lastly the site design may change slightly, basically I have just stuck things onto the site as links, but I will try and tidy it up soon and move a few things around. Does anyone have a feeling about the Weblogs Banner ad thing at the top of the site, I’m not sure if I like it there or not… my banner is in the exchange so if you see it let me know! Lastly when I get paid at the end of this month I will be changing servers, to increase speed and reliability!
The Learned Pig Project : Marko has updated the members area of this excellent site. Basically they archive old magical books, programmes etc. If your not a member it is free to join and I suggest you do so immediatley!
Site Update: As you might have seen I’ve done an update to the site, cleaned it up a bit, added some more buttons at the side. Two new features are the Links section and the Articles section. Both should be fairly explanatory. You can submit your own links to the links section, and the articles section gives my longer reviews and rants a more permanent and easy to navigate home. Also if you haven’t already done so please sign the Guestbook. Next update will be to move servers to a paid, hopefully more reliable server. Also to design some banners and buttons if people wish to link to me?! THEN after all that maybe I can actually concentrate on blogging
This seems to be the craze at the minute, StorTroopers in case you haven’t guessed that little avatar is supposed to be me Create your own and let me know the results!
Site Update 2: Right I’ve quickly knocked up some varying size banners and buttons, the small button can be seen on the right of your screen under the MagicWeek button. The Emergency exits are located to the left… ah sorry… Also if you click the ‘Link to Us!’ link you will see all the banners and buttons in a nice window. Feel free to display any of these on your own site, and if you link back to us we will link back to you, just let me know. Next is to sign up to some weblog directories I think namely: GBLogs, Weblogs, BlogHop and BlogStart.
Card Magic Miracles: NEW book by Paul Gordon (Published Spring/Summer 2001) As Paul could not continue (or start) publishing The Quidnunc due to ill-health he has decided to release his material in the form of a new book. You can pre-order, and take a look at the contents at this site.
Online card trick.: Instructions on how you can do an online card trick, good idea this as long as he doesn’t limit it to one go per week as he says he will. Might be some room for expansion on this, also to include the Prediction Register idea that appeared on Magictalk a while back, watch this space as they say!
