This just in from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I’m a Magician myself and quite recently got a blog.
It’s address is http://www.workingmagi.blogspot.com
It’s the blog of a working magician. I post my adventures in the world of private gigs. I’d be very flattered if you published it in your own blog.
Thanks in advance very much.
Sandor
This just in all the way from the bright lights of Hollywood:
Hello from Hollywood!
Thought you and your readers might like to know that Hollywood’s Magic Castle is being mentioned on tomorrow’s edition (Friday, August 31st) of Dave’s Hollywood Minute. There’s a quick story about actor Jason Alexander being a magician and having performed there. You can visit http://www.hollywoodminute.us/podcast to hear the show if it’s not carried on a radio station in your area (or find it at the iTunes music store).
Sideshow Illusions is the new site to accompany Jon Marshall’s new venture. Hull Magicians’ Circle members have enjoyed these marvels for the last few years as part of our Annual Dinner. Jon and his team have been working hard to take these attractions on the road and have been travelling to society dinners and functions across the country. Recently they got invited to take part in the Admission All Classes event in Blackpool as part of the Cabinet of Curiosities show.
A quick list of some new magic blogs that have started recently:
Jim Sisti - author of The Magic Menu blogs on life as a professional magician.
Aaron Fisher - a more immediate, unfiltered view of what it
Quirkology: Professor Richard Wiseman has spent twenty years exploring the backwaters of the human mind and going to places where mainstream scientists fear to tread. The result is Quirkology. A site around Richard’s new book on Quirkology which he terms as psychological research that is quirky. The site also contains some very interesting video clips (the Colour Changing Card Trick is amazing!) and some online experiments such as a lie detection experiment using YouTube videos, and testing how your surname affects your life.
Andrew Mayne’s MagicZine: free magic tricks, inside tips, articles, interviews and magic reviews. From the iTricks stable comes an online e-zine, with some very nice free tricks and articles. The Nathan Kranzo idea particularly appealed to me when he sent it on his mailing list, check it out, and also the related Mike Powers idea in his new book, I think doing copper/silver this way is a very cool idea, and very easy to carry the props for an ‘impromptu’ performance.
The Magic Lantern Podcast: Scott Sullivan’s new video production company has a new magic podcast, the latest episode is an interview with Eric DeCamps.
Alex’s Magic Reviews: Alex Rossi’s new review blog, some good reviews of Jack Parker, Andi Gladwin, Dave Forrest, Justin Miller and Robert Moreland’s material.
A Double D Tour: Andi Gladwin and Tyler Wilson are currently touring the U.S. with their T&A tour, still a few dates left to catch them if you haven’t already. Check out the photos. How about a UK tour guys?
AOL Show Me: AOL’s new video tutorial site, has a magic section with some interesting beginners clips, worth checking out some of the other video clips as well.
The Lecture Network: Jeff Hobson is the face of this new venture, hoping to bring live video lectures, starting this summer. You can let them know who you would like to see. Also there will be access to archive clips, live chat, interviews and podcasts, looks great!
Directory of Magic is a magic and magician web directory, offer you links to websites which provide information related to magic, magician and performers, magic equipment, magic cards ,coins, illusions, effects and so on.
Magic Convention Guide: a new site from my friend Noel Qualter. It will be the one-stop shop guide to all Magic Conventions, with News, Reviews, Photos, Interviews, Articles, Guides and Gossip. Check out the guide to surviving Blackpool, if you are going this weekend and also the interviews from Luke Jermay and Joshua Jay and Kevin McMahon’s First Ever visit to a Magic Convention. The site will be updated every Saturday, so make sure to keep visiting, and if you have any reports or photos from conventions, or you are organising a convention then be sure to let them know.
Erdnase: The Expert at the Card Table: Bill Kalush and The Conjuring Arts Research Centre have produced a pocket-sized edition of Erdnase, you can see photos of this edition and all the other editions, and purchase your copy for only $15. The site also promises Essays and a Forum soon.
Magic Sanctum is a collaborative project to create the most definitive, accurate, and accessible encyclopedia reference for everything related to the performance and performers of the magical arts.
The Genii Blog: a new blog by Richard Kaufman, extending his Genii Speaks column into the online blog world. No RSS feed yet but hopefully should be forthcoming. Some interesting magic and film and disney posts.
MagicTimes: Meir Yedid’s popular magic news site is back. After a short break from the strain of daily-updates, Meir now has an automated system up that scrapes Yahoo!, Google etc. looking for Magic related news. As such you do get the odd story not related to Magic as an art, but still very much worth a read.
Giacomo Bertini: Watch some excellent coin magic from Giacomo Bertini of Florence, Italy, and purchase his DVD. He wants to introduce you to new techniques and a new way of doing coin magic. He has some great quotes from Steve Draun, David Roth and Michael Rubinstein. You can watch his version of Spellbound, Matrix and Portable Hole, his DVD promises new equipments, vanishes, steals, fake transfers, switches and productions!
iTricks: Andrew Mayne brings you itricks.com Magic News, Information & Culture. The goal of itricks.com is to bring to you the latest news and information from the world of magic.
Jerome Murat: a clip of an act I was fortunate to see twice live this year, once at Blackpool and again at FISM, its an awesome act very beautiful and just simply magical, if you get to see the whole thing live its even better than this short clip, but this gives you some idea.
Playing Mind Games: an article on the BBC site about how magic can be used in different contexts, from explotation, for both virtuous and criminal purposes. Also the article mentions David Copperfields Project Magic and more immediate uses for the art.
